Egnyte vs. VPN

Last week, we had a few customers ask us how their Egnyte Cloud File Server could serve as a better replacement for their virtual private network (VPN). In case you had the same question, I have outlined the similarities below. Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!

A VPN is a method of encrypting data on transmission. A VPN network uses a public telecommunication infrastructure, like the Internet, to provide remote offices or individual users with secure access to their organization's network. VPN's are expensive, require IT for maintenance, and introduce significant latency when you access your office network. Rather than worry about providing all this yourself, Egnyte can offer a simple, all-inclusive, secure solution.

Egnyte removes the overhead costs and latency associated with a VPN. Egnyte has 265-bit AES encryptions over SSL, providing secure transmission of data. We also have encryption at the storage layer. Our servers are hosted at a Type-II, SAS 70 compliant collocation facility that features 24-hour manned security, biometric access control, video surveillance and physical locks. With Egnyte you can set strict password protected access controls and have the ability to run a full audit report of all activity on your Egnyte account.
