  • On your website, you say that Egnyte Protect is easy to deploy. What are the deployment steps?

Egnyte Protect is a SaaS solution, so the user simply signs up for an account. Then, if you are a Connect customer, simply enable Protect on your Connect domain, and be sure to create a dedicated admin account within the domain for use by Egnyte Protect. Using a distinct account will ensure that access by Egnyte Protect is segregated within audit reports for the domain.

Then you select Egnyte Protect in the main menu in Connect and login with the dedicated admin account.

An Egnyte representative is available if you require technical support.

  • How is Egnyte Protect different than other data protection offerings?

    Varonis

Varonis is expensive and highly complex requiring significant time and professional services to deploy, and it only supports on-premises deployments. It requires a large infrastructure investment, large setup and services fees, and has a large annual maintenance cost. Although the data scans are comprehensive, they take a very long time to complete.

Egnyte Protect supports cloud and on-premises repositories, is easy to deploy, easy to use, and has the quickest time to value in the market. Egnyte Protect starts classifying data immediately, and can classify most organization’s data in 5-7 days versus 2-3 months for Varonis.

    Microsoft Azure Information Protection (AIP)

Microsoft AIP is a collection of acquired technologies that is jumbled and hard to use. It is a mix of 10+ products coming together to form a single solution. Many users have stated that it is confusing, and difficult to use due to an inconsistent user experience.

Egnyte Protect supports cloud and on-premises repositories, is easy to deploy, easy to use, and has the quickest time to value in the market. Egnyte Protect safeguards your investment in existing infrastructure by supporting Windows file server, SharePoint, and Microsoft OneDrive for Business.

OneDrive for Business is in a completely different product category than Egnyte Protect. OneDrive is closer to our content collaboration product called Egnyte Connect, and Egnyte Connect has many advantages over OneDrive. Info on Egnyte Connect can be found here: Secure File Sharing.

    Box Governance

Box Governance is a data governance solution with a few security features and light discovery based on patterns. Their only use case is around data retention.

Box Governance only supports the Box cloud, ignoring other cloud and on-premises repositories.

  • Can this program alert me if an employee copies files onto an external hard drive?

No. Egnyte Protect only monitors on-premises repositories like Windows File Server and SharePoint, not user actions on on-premises systems.
