A Local Cloud is an always-available local copy of your files on the Egnyte Cloud File Server. The Local Cloud solution provides off-line access to your business files, enables faster editing of large files, and provides a local copy of your files for the fastest access possible. Here is an overview of our Local Cloud solutions:

Egnyte has three types of Local Cloud solutions, depending on the needs of your organization:

| Platform | Computer Hard drive or Direct Attached Storage. | Netgear ReadyNAS | VMWare-based virtual appliance. | |
| Access | Individual access. Each Power User can create a local cloud on their computer1 | Centralized access. One Local Cloud per office2 | Centralized access. One Local Cloud per office2 | |
| Security | Each Power User can only create a local cloud for folders they have access to in the cloud. | Automatic management of local access permissions. Egnyte automatically synchronizes all access permissions from the Cloud File Server into the Local Cloud. Egnyte can also integrate with existing directory services like Active Directory or LDAP. | Automatic management of local access permissions. | Usage Pattern | Individual users typically do not work on the same files simultaneously. If they do, Egnyte will create automatic versions of file changes – no edits are lost. | Within a Group/Department, users access specific folders simultaneously and therefore would like automatic file locking for the file on the local cloud. | Within a Group/Department, users access specific folders simultaneously and therefore would like automatic file locking for the file on the local cloud. | |

but the access control for each folder will have to be managed by the server administrator. Personal Local Cloud is a standard feature for Power User accounts. 2 Multiple Office Local Clouds can be deployed in one location if storage needs exceed one device capacity. 3 Standard feature for Power Users. |
