Features - File Access

Access your files from the Web, your desktop and mobile device

The Egnyte Cloud File Server is an easy-to-use integrated solution that enables you to securely access, share and manage business files regardless of your location. Whether you're at your desk or on the road, Egnyte gives you the freedom to enjoy on-demand access to files from the web or your desktop. For convenient mobile access you can use iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Android or any other web-enabled mobile device. It's the simple, affordable way to effectively manage your business files from anywhere.

Getting started with Egnyte couldn't be easier. Simply create and organize as many folders and sub-folders as you need, then use these folders to store and share documents, photos, CAD drawings, Photoshop files, video, music and more. Keep your folders private, or share them by inviting others to view, download, edit or even delete files. You control folder permissions, and the length of time they remain available to others. And files are quickly and easily retrieved from the web, your desktop or mobile device via link, or by using Egnyte's powerful built-in search capabilities that include search techniques such as keywords, find similar files and file name match. Egnyte supports industry standard FTP protocol and allows you to use any FTP client software.

Accessing files from the web

Egnyte makes it easy for you and others (with appropriate levels of permission) to securely access files from the web. Using a popular web browser (Egnyte supports Internet Explorer 6 & higher, Firefox 1.5 & higher, Safari 3 & higher and Chrome), simply navigate to https://"mycompany".egnyte.com and login with your credentials. Once logged in, you can navigate to the appropriate Shared or Private folder to access files.

Once you've located the file you're looking for, you can open it, or save it to your computer if you wish to make changes. When your changes are complete, all you have to do is upload the file back into its folder. Because versioning is automatic, you never have to worry about overwriting a saved file. And while a built-in, browser-based Java uploader can handle most uploading duties, Egnyte provides easy-to-use, no-maintenance FTP for your largest files (500 MBs or more).

Accessing files from your desktop

With Egnyte, you have the option to map a drive to the Egnyte Cloud File Server for file access from the convenience of your desktop. A mapped drive is not only an easy way to access and edit files on Egnyte, it also happens to work just like a local physical hard disk drive, so you already know how to use it.

All Egnyte Power Users have the option to map a network drive to the Egnyte Cloud File Server from their PC for desktop file access. (Mac users create a shared volume for this same functionality.) This allows for easy file access through either the Windows user interface or command prompt. And uploading and downloading files that reside on the Egnyte Cloud File Server is as simple as using your mouse to drag and drop them from the mapped drive to wherever you want them to go. If you need to make some edits, all you have to do is simply open the file from your mapped drive, make your changes and then save.

Accessing files from your mobile device

With Egnyte, you can use iPhone and iPad apps or the web browser of your mobile device to access, share and manage your documents. To access the Egnyte Cloud File Server from your mobile device, simply open up the app or browser on your device and login to your Egnyte account. Based on your access permissions, you will have access to the same information as you would from your computer. You can also modify permissions on folders, view older file versions or view comments on files.

You can also easily share files from the road. Choose specific files and email them out as attachments from your phone or create a link to a large file and simply distribute the link. Sharing data with your colleagues and partners is now just a few clicks away. (Egnyte mobile access is available on iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and Android phones.)
