Disaster Recovery with a Hybrid Cloud Solution
Disaster recovery triggers businesses to look to the cloud as a way to backup their data. In a recent IDG article, our CEO, Vineet Jain, pointed to 9/11 and other major disasters as leading to the modern cloud storage industry. He pointed out that relying on a single data center is more vulnerable than backing up data at multiple locations. The attacks also led to a discussion in business circles about cybersecurity, with raised data security expectations from customers, he said.
The attacks created a "classic turning point" where business customers became more concerned about data security and availability.

Security Best Practices
- Require and use strong passwords - it's your first line of defense when using the cloud.
- Set your web session timeouts appropriately. If you have a busy
office with many people walking around, it's best to set your timeout to
1 or 2 hours.
- On Egnyte, you can disable Personal Local Cloud for your power
users if you don't want them storing important company files locally.

Product Updates
Password Controls
You asked and we listened. By default, Egnyte requires new users to change their password when they first log in. However, many customers requested we eliminate this step. Now, administrators will have the option to determine if power users or standard users are required to reset their password when they first log in.
 User Management Controls
You now have the option to delay sending invitation emails when creating new power or standard users. This enables administrators to create a user and set up folder permissions before welcoming the user to Egnyte. When you are ready to email your new user, simply use the Resend Invitation toolbar action.
