FTP process improvements
Moving files from FTP
Once users load files into the FTP folder, they move files into specific Shared or Private folders. In the current move process, sometimes high loads would cause errors where the actual move would fail. In such cases the files would disappear from the users view. In such cases users would reload the files.
In the new Move process, we keep the files visible to the user until the move is successful. Files being moved are also highlighted with a different color in the interface, therefore providing visual feedback. The files are only removed from the ftp folder once the move has successfully completed into the target shared or private folder.
Trailing spaces in files and folders
Apple Mac computers allow files and folders with leading or trailing space characters. Since Windows computers do not allow such characters in their file and folder names (and files from Egnyte could be downloaded into Windows computers) Egnyte currently blocks uploads of files and folders with leading or trailing spaces. With this enhancement, users can upload files and folders with leading or trailing spaces using FTP. Egnyte will automatically eliminate these leading and trailing spaces before files are moved into the appropriate shared or private folders. |

Copy/Move UI dialogs
The copy/move dialogs in the web interface now also share the same look and feel as the left and right pane tree navigation providing for faster hierarchical navigation of the folder tree for copy and move actions.

Version control on Shared and Private folders
Version policy for shared and private folders has been a much requested feature from our users. Account administrators can now control the number of versions on the shared and private folders. The version policy is enforced by a process that runs every night to delete any versions that are in excess of the set policy. All deleted versions go into the trash folder.

Enhanced Folder Notification Controls
Another feature that has been often requested is the ability to control notifications across all users. Some customers want to force all their users to receive notifications at a specific frequency. Some customers want to turn off notifications entirely, preventing any of their users from receiving notifications when files are changed or uploaded.
The enhanced notification controls provide precisely this capability, allowing administrators to decide how notifications are delivered across all users in their account, or optionally allow each user to control notifications as a personal setting. |

Branding (Mail server enhancements)
In brand settings section, we have enhanced the mail server settings. This is relevant for those customers who use their own servers for all outbound emails from Egnyte. Egnyte now allows customers to communicate with a mail relay server in addition to an SMTP mail server. Additionally, we now allow a variety of ways to make secure connections, providing both an SSL and a TLS.

Thumbnails
As mentioned in last months newsletter, we have been working on fundamental
improvements on thumbnail generation for image files. We are finally about to
release this significantly improved thumbnail architecture. It will improve the speed
of image file generation, image quality and support all image types including .tiff and
CMYK images. It should be made available within the next two weeks. |

Local Cloud
Both the
Personal Local Cloud and
Office Local Cloud (on NAS) are being given a
significant usability makeover. Ease of accessing the local cloud from desktop
shortcuts, better communication on when the synchronization happens, improved
error reporting and core back-end server architecture improvements are some of
the areas that are being worked on for the next release. On the Office Local Cloud
front, we now cover the entire Netgear product line for 1 to 1000 users. |
