| File Upload Spotlight |
| We continue to receive numerous questions about uploading files, folders of different sizes and what the best interface is to use for different purposes. Here is a quick guideline on the various interfaces and how best to use them. |
Desktop Access from a mapped drive:This is available to power users only. The desktop access is a great way to transfer in multiple files and folders. It also works great when directly editing files directly from your desktop. To install desktop access, you must be a power user and click the "Map File Server as a drive" action from the Egnyte home page. |
| However, if you are looking into move 1GB or more of data in one batch, try using the Multi-File & Folder Uploader instead. |
Multi-File & Folder Uploader: This is well suited to large files and entire folders that range from 100's of MB's to a few GB's. The multi-file uploader supports compression and recovery of stalled uploads. Compression is a technique we use to zip files on the fly which allows you to upload larger files and folders quicker. Recovery is a technique we use that lets you pick up uploads from where you left off. If you have a bad internet connection, and your upload stalls at 25%, you can start the upload again and we pick up from 25% instead of restarting. |
Data Migration Service: If you are looking to "seed" your Egnyte file server with a large initial set of data, running into 10's or even 100's of GB, you are better off using the migration service. Ship us a drive and we will have your data uploaded into your account. You can contact us to schedule this for your company. |
