The solution has four main components:
- Egnyte Uploader software that you install on your computers
- Egnyte web application
- Egnyte desktop access component
- Secure servers where your data is stored and indexed
The Egnyte Uploader you install on your computer allows you to backup file and email folders.
The Egnyte web application, which is a browser based interface, provides the access to your secure online account. Using the web application, you can perform a variety of actions to store, share and retrieve files. The desktop access component allows access to Egnyte directly from your desktop. Using this, you can manipulate files just as if they were stored on your desktop.
Keeping your data safe and private is of utmost concern to us. We have utilized a range of security and encryption techniques to ensure that your data is secure.
Egnyte uses encryption techniques on all access routes. All access to Egnyte using the web is completely encrypted. Accessing Egnyte using your browser is just as safe as conducting a banking transaction. Owing to the encryption used, no data can be hacked or intercepted..
The Egnyte Uploader, which backs up data from your computer also uses encryption when uploading information to your online account. This data is transmitted using a secure sockets layer.
The desktop access into Egnyte also uses Encryption, therefore ensuring that any files stored or retrieved from Egnyte directly from your computer are transmitted safely. At the application user interface level, we prevent the injection of malicious scripts by using rigorous coding techniques and avoiding the use of dynamic scripting languages which are amenable to malicious script injection.
The servers, where your data is stored, are not publicly visible and can only be accessed by the application. Administrative tasks cannot be performed remotely but can only be accomplished via accessing the server rack in the data center.
Our employees do not have access your data in any way. Access to the server will only be in the hands of a select few who are responsible for system administration.
We plan to offer an additional level of encryption in the future, whereby all user data is stored encrypted on the server. However, it is important to be aware that the encryption techniques will have an adverse affect on application performance.
If you choose to stop using the application, you can export all your data out of Egnyte. You can utilize the delete functions within the application to purge your data from Egnyte.
We do not store your search patterns, we do not use it for any ads and we do not use your data for any kind of analysis or provide it to any agency for marketing activities. Our sole aim is to help you maximize the value of your information, period.
This seems to be caused by a known problem with the way the Finder handles large file transfers and associated network connection issues. Generally this tends to happen when you are transferring large files (> 10 MB) and the network connection is spotty (wireless).
The solution to this problem is two-fold:
- If you get a "Connection Interrupted" window with a "Disconnect" button during the transfer, ignore the message and let it continue. The error window will automatically disappear after transfer is complete.
- Increase system timeout parameters on your computer. To do so, access the Terminal application from within Applications/Utilities. Paste the following command in the terminal window and hit ENTER.
sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.fw.dyn_ack_lifetime=600
